Bad Monk? ~ Bangkok
Jan 18 2002

Buddhism can be a supremely adaptable philosophy/religion and in Thailand this takes on forms strange to a westerner. A monk is forbidden from eating anything after noon every day and we have been told that smoking and drinking coffee (the bag with the straw on the ground) helps with the hunger pangs. I suppose it is no stranger than for a Buddhist to see a Trappist monk brew beer or a Benedictine monk make Brandy.
